ITU ARI Teknokent, the hub of entrepreneurship and innovation in Turkey, achieved a significant acceleration in the number of patented startups and ranked second with 136 startups, according to the “Turkey’s Patent Report” published by Patent Effect. This achievement reflects long-term innovation policies and comprehensive support mechanisms offered to entrepreneurs.

According to the “Turkey’s Patent Report,” one of the most comprehensive and data-driven annual analyses shedding light on Turkey’s patent ecosystem, prepared by the Patent Effect initiative, ITU ARI Teknokent rose to second place among technoparks in terms of patented startup count with 136 ventures. This rise results from sustainable innovation strategies and multidimensional support provided to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The increase in ITU ARI Teknokent’s ranking stems from systematic patent mentorship programs and intellectual property-focused support mechanisms established with the ARI Technology Transfer Office (ARI TTO), founded in 2022.

One-on-one consultancy processes offered to entrepreneurs ensure not only the development of ideas but also their transformation into protectable and commercializable outputs. This approach directly strengthens the innovation capacity within the technopark.

ARI TTO, operating within ITU ARI Teknokent, designs and manages intellectual property processes end-to-end for startups. This structure spans from raising intellectual property awareness to defining patent strategies and accelerating commercialization, enabling developed technologies to turn into economic value.

As a result, startups do not only produce patents; they also bring their technologies to market and achieve sustainable competitive advantage.

“A startup that does not manage the patent process struggles with commercialization”

Prof. Dr. Attila Dikbaş, General Manager of ITU ARI Teknokent, commented:
“We do not limit ourselves to encouraging entrepreneurs in patent processes. We provide active support to ensure this process progresses in a healthy and sustainable way. We develop solutions to overcome challenges in accessing finance and facilitate startups’ access to the resources they need. Startups that complete patent and licensing processes can focus directly on commercialization and bring their technologies to market faster. For this reason, intellectual property production and access to finance act as two critical levers for startup growth. Thanks to the integrated structure we established, startups not only develop technology; they commercialize it and transform into highly competitive companies.”

Patent production reflects investment performance

According to the report, published for the seventh time this year, ITU ARI Teknokent startups also demonstrated strong performance in the “Funded Patented Startup Companies” list. Thirteen out of the 35 startups listed originated from this ecosystem, clearly showing its capacity to generate investment.

RePG Enerji, at the top of the list, ranked first among funded patented startups, achieving remarkable success. Additionally, Büyütech’s place in the top three once again highlighted the strong and balanced startup portfolio of ITU ARI Teknokent.

RePG Enerji positioned itself globally

RePG Enerji Sistemleri, operating within ITU ARI Teknokent, appeared in the Triadic Patent Champion Companies list. This success shows that the technologies developed by the company in renewable energy have gained global recognition. RePG Enerji represents a strong example of high value-added and internationally competitive startups.

Scale, model, and tangible output combined

Today, ITU ARI Teknokent forms one of Turkey’s most comprehensive entrepreneurship ecosystems, with over 420 active R&D companies and more than 5,500 startups supported to date. More than 2,000 of these startups continue their operations.

This scale demonstrates not only size but also the capacity to generate sustainable success. Ranking second in patented startups and strong representation among funded ventures stand as concrete outcomes of this structure.

The model, which brings together entrepreneurship, academia, and industry within the same system, offers a comprehensive structure from idea stage to commercialization. This system enables startups to evolve into companies that produce technology and build competitive advantage.
