Prof. Dr. Şenol ATAOĞLU completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Istanbul Technical University. He was at Florida Atlantic University between 1999-2001 as a post-doctorate.

He started working as a Research Assistant at ITU Civil Engineering Department in 1993, became an Assistant Professor in 2005, an Associate Professor in 2011, and a Professor in 2017. He has been appointed to be Vice Rector of ITU since 2024.

He served as Vice Dean and Deputy Dean of ITU Faculty of Civil Engineering, Board Member of Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management Institute, Vice Head of Civil Engineering Department, Structural Engineering Program Coordinator, Djibouti University Civil Engineering Program Coordinator, ITU TRNC Construction and Technical Affairs Director. He gave lectures at Gedik, Işık, Istanbul Commerce and Djibouti Universities.
